The philosophy of OC FAST-TWITCH training revolves around the science of iso-kinetic and its application to sports performance. When training to improve performance, it is important to analyze and enhance the speed at which the athlete moves from point A to point B, the speed the extremities move in throwing or kicking an object, how quickly he or she explodes when leaping, jumping, moving forward, backward or from side to side, or how fast theathlete reacts when placed in time-sensitive athletic situations. Each of these factors is part of the science of iso-kinetic.
Speed, quickness, velocity and explosion are all sports buzz words today. Until the introduction of iso-kinetic into theperformance arena, from the rehabilitation setting, training for speed, quickness, velocity, etc., was limited to plyometric and other eccentrically loaded exercise programs. These are effective up to only about 70 degrees per second. And, with eccentrically loaded exercise programs, there is always the threat of injury. The over-load on joints and stretch on muscles associated with this form of training could eventually break down the musculoskeletal system and limit the speeds at which the athlete can train. With iso-kinetic and computer-driven exercise training, the athlete can now train at high speeds of 300 to 900 degrees per second with only a concentric load, requiring no load on the joints or stretch on the muscles. Unique to the OC FAST-TWITCH system, this is done against variable velocity that accommodates the different speeds required throughout the range of motion. The nervous system is trained to move rapidly through the slow-twitch and medium-twitch peripheral reflex arc and then “fire off” using the FAST-TWITCH reflex arc. This immediate and deliberate training of the FAST-TWITCH nerve fiber increases the speeds at which muscles react.
Increased power equals increased performance! Furthermore, the simplified version of the power equation is: power = force x velocity. To be a complete athlete it is critical to work on both sides of this equation. Traditionally, athletes have created tremendous gains on the force portion of the equation using free weights and weight machines to bench press, squat, power clean, etc. We believe this is an important aspect of balanced training! We give special attention to the use of good form while performing any iso-tonic exercise as this reduces chance of injury and develops solid habits. This force side is a very important element of balanced training and must be done correctly with focus on flexibility and adequate recovery time between training sessions! With work done correctly; performance will increase as a result of the increase in overall power a direct result of gains made on the force portion of the equation. Now however, we must ask the obvious question. “Is the athlete who can squat 500 pounds, bench 350 pounds, clean 400 pounds, necessarily the best athlete?” No!! He is probably the strongest athlete, but not necessarily the best performing athlete. Why? Primarily, with free weights and weight machines, the athlete is training at speeds of seven to ten degrees per second while their sport requires them to perform at 300 to 900 degrees per second. With only weight training, the velocity side of the equation has not been addressed. The training is not complete!
At OC FAST-TWITCH, our secret and unique specialty is to further increase power by training the athlete at top speeds on the velocity side of the equation. We don’t do this like other sports training centers with only plyometric or “bungee running” drills that can be done on any field in the area; potentially adding more stress to the joints and risk of over-training. No, our computerized iso-kinetic training done with the close monitoring of our coaches in a controlled environment at ten times the speed the athlete normally trains when using free weights, allows the athlete to simultaneously train the velocity portion (the nervous system) of the power equation for maximum strength and peak power performance. This all happens without joint loading; reducing chance of injury and over-training! No other training program has this ability! The OC FAST-TWITCH iso-kinetic training is in essence, power training done safely! Now that we have learned how to apply computer driven power training, we can dynamically impact strength, speed, quickness, explosion, endurance and recovery with consistent and quantifiable accuracy. This technology is what sets us apart from all other training facilities and gives us the ability to give you unparalleled results.
With this unique technology and training experience, the OC FAST-TWITCH team is excited to be YOUR TRAINING PARTNER to give you THE EDGE you need to be the best you can be.
